Push back against pushout theft. Pushout theft is the technique of choice for Organised Retail Crime (ORC) and everyday shoplifters. Pushout thieves fill shopping carts by clearing out shelves, freezers and cabinets; walking out with an average of $561, with 1 in 5 thefts over $1,000. Sharp Security estimates that most pushout theft goes unnoticed, with multiple smaller thefts for every ORC theft. If a shoplifter experiences success at a location, they will come back.
Keep your carts on the lot and on the clock. Carts live a life full of difficult work, theft, and abuse. Retailers can lose two carts a week, over a 100 carts a year, a loss of $10,000 in property. Once off the lot, carts are considered a public nuisance with city ordinances fines and retrieval fees weighing down operations and management budgets. Carts that are returned cost more in maintenance and are unpleasant to use.
